The Accademia Gallery in Florence exceeded 2 million visitors in 2023, a record year. From 2025 it is part of the "Accademia Gallery of Florence and Bargello Museums" group and no longer the Uffizi, and in July 2026 new visitor regulations and new access ticket regulations were approved. Some pages on the museum’s website still show older information, so it’s always best to check the conditions on your own ticket.
The key point is simple: there is no official ticket called "skip the line". The official timed ticket already gives access to the reserved entrance, while a ticket bought on the day at the ticket office has no time slot and uses the non-reserved entrance, meaning you join the queue. All other choices follow from this.
The short answer
Reservation is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended, especially from April to September, on weekends and public holidays. The official timed ticket can be bought online or via the call center at +39 055 294883, is non-transferable and uses the reserved entrance. At the ticket office you can buy same-day tickets without a time slot, which means you enter via the queue. On the first Sunday of the month entry is free but without reservation, and anyone under 18 enters for free every day.

Do you need to book tickets for the Accademia Gallery?
No, booking is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended, especially from April to September, on weekends and public holidays.
The Ministry of Culture states that booking is optional. In practice, however, the difference between those who have booked and those who have not is clear on the pavement of Via Ricasoli: the reserved ticket has a set entry time and uses a dedicated door, while those arriving without a ticket buy at the ticket office and join the queue at the non-reserved entrance. The museum is one of the most visited in Italy, and during peak months the wait can be long.
Those with fixed dates and little time in Florence should book a few days in advance, especially if they want the first morning slot, which opens at 8:15. Travellers in winter, on a weekday, or with flexible schedules can also decide on the spot, accepting the risk of a queue.

Where can you buy official tickets for the Accademia?
According to the 2026 regulations, there are three channels: online, via the phone call centre and at the museum’s ticket offices.
- Online: from the tickets page on the official Accademia Gallery website. You can buy a maximum of 10 tickets per transaction.
- By phone: Firenze Musei call center, +39 055 294883. According to Firenzecard information, it is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 18:30, Saturday from 8:30 to 18:00, and Sunday and holidays from 9:00 to 18:00.
- At the ticket offices: same-day tickets can be bought on site, but without a reserved time slot.
Tickets booked online or by phone are tied to a time slot and include a booking fee added to the entry ticket. They are non-transferable: the name can be changed only once, up to 24 hours before the visit. For updated prices, it is best to check the official page directly, as in 2026 the rates changed and many sites still list old figures.
Can you buy tickets at the counter?
Yes. The museum’s ticket offices sell same-day tickets, but these do not have a set time and are used at the non-reserved entrance, so with the queue.
This is the most important difference to understand. The ticket bought at the ticket office is valid, but those who buy it enter through the door for visitors without reservations, in order of arrival. During quiet periods the wait can be short; in peak season it is hard to predict, and the museum does not publish official waiting times.
Those who choose the ticket desk should arrive early and check the time: under the 2026 regulations, the last entry is 40 minutes before closing, while some older museum pages still list 18:20. Updated opening times are collected in the guide on opening times and visiting tips.
Official ticket with reserved time slot and assistance at an office near the museum: you choose the time slot and skip the ticket office queue.
Book thisCan you skip the line at the Accademia Gallery?
Only the ticket office queue. There is no official skip-the-line option: the timed-entry ticket uses the reserved entrance, but the security check applies to everyone.
Many online offers use the term "skip the line". In reality, the museum does not sell a product with this name: anyone who books an official timed-entry ticket, online or by phone, already enters through the reserved entrance without going to the ticket desk. The "skip the line" tickets from resellers are the same type of timed-entry ticket, with an additional agency service.
There is also one queue that no one skips: the mandatory security check at the entrance for all visitors. The offers themselves state this clearly: the official timed ticket offer specifies that the reserved entry only avoids the ticket queue, not the security line. Even on the free first Sundays of the month, there is no skip-the-line option because reservations are not active on those days. Those who want to know what to see once inside can find the main rooms in the guide on what to see beyond David.

When can you enter the Accademia Gallery for free?
On the first Sunday of every month, admission is free for everyone, with no reservation required; minors under 18 enter free every day.
The Accademia Gallery is participating in #domenicalmuseo in 2026 as well. On that day, the reservation service is not active: you go to the entrance and wait your turn in line, so queues are long and no pre-booked ticket allows you to skip them. The museum has also designated some national holidays as free entry days, such as 25 April, 2 June and 4 November: it is advisable to check these year by year on the official website.
According to the 2026 access regulations, the following enter free of charge every day:
- minors under 18, of any nationality (children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult);
- people with disabilities and one companion;
- licensed tourist guides and interpreters in the European Union, ICOM members and other professional categories provided for by the museum.
EU citizens aged 18 to 25 are entitled to a reduced-price ticket. Even those who enter free on a normal day can book a time slot, paying only the reservation fee according to the museum’s rules.
Does the Firenzecard cover the Accademia Gallery?
Yes, the Firenzecard includes the Accademia Gallery, but booking a time slot is mandatory and subject to availability.
The Firenzecard is the city’s official pass, valid for 72 hours. It includes entry to the Accademia Gallery, booking and exhibitions with no extra costs, but holders must reserve a time slot, one reservation per person including minors. Reservations can be made by phone at +39 055 294883 or at the My Accademia ticket offices (Via Ricasoli 105/r) and Orsanmichele, in Via dei Calzaiuoli. With a reservation, you use the priority entrance.
From 15 March 2026, there are also two combined tickets for the museum group: a 48-hour ticket for the Accademia and Bargello, and a 72-hour ticket for the Accademia, Bargello, Medici Chapels, Orsanmichele and Palazzo Davanzati. There is no official ticket that combines the Accademia and Uffizi: the Uffizi PassePartout only covers Uffizi, Palazzo Pitti and Boboli Gardens. The options for visiting both museums together are explained in the guide Uffizi or Accademia.

Timed entry and smartphone audioguide in 9 languages: you visit at your own pace and listen to the history of each room.
Book thisWhat does a ticket bought on GetYourGuide include?
Not a different entry, but a service: an agency that handles the booking, and depending on the offer, an audioguide, a live guide or a combined tour.
It’s important to be clear: buying through GetYourGuide does not give you faster access than an officially pre-booked ticket. You get an agency that manages the booking, free cancellation up to 24 hours before and, depending on the choice, something extra for the visit.
- Official timed ticket: this offer states that the ticket must be collected at the agency office at Via degli Alfani 115 R, a short walk from the museum, 10 minutes before the chosen time. There is no guide; as an option you can add a smartphone audio guide and a virtual reality experience.
- Ticket with audio guide: timed entry and app with audio guide in 9 languages. Here too the voucher is exchanged at an office near the gallery, and according to the offer, late arrivals lose their reserved entry.
- Guided tour with entry: live guide and timed entry, meeting point at Via Ricasoli 39.
- Combined tours: Accademia Gallery and Uffizi in the same morning, or Accademia Gallery and Duomo.
The differences between the guided tours are explored in the guide to the guided tour.
